Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS)

BAPS is a global socio-spiritual organization committed to morally and spiritually uplift mankind. It was established in 1907 by Brahmaswarup Shastriji Maharaj in light of the Vedic teachings propagated by Bhagwan Swaminarayan (1781-1830). The organization’s global network of 1,100 mandirs, 3,850 Satsang centres and 17,000 weekly assemblies are perennial sources of moral, social, cultural and spiritual activities. The energies of the BAPS volunteer corps of 55,000 are channeled towards a variety of internationally recognized philanthropic activities.

BAPS is an NGO in consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. Its world renowned cultural and spiritual complexes, like Swaminarayan Akshardham in New Delhi and Gandhinagar, and Swaminarayan Mandirs in London, Houston, Chicago, Atlanta, Toronto, Los Angeles, Robbinsville and Nairobi are representations of its contributions to society.

Amongst its various social services, BAPS demonstrates an invaluable commitment towards education. Focusing the energies of its volunteers towards the construction, maintenance, and administration of numerous educational and research facilities, the organization provides a network of educational centers that promote learning and collaboration across varied forms of academic scholarship. Along with its support of the BAPS Swaminarayan Research Institute, BAPS also facilitates in the administration of AARSH (The Akshardham Center for Applied Research in Social Harmony) located at Akshardham in Gandhinagar, Gujarat and the Svāminārāyaṇasaṃskṛtamahāvidyālaya, a Sanskrit pāṭhaśālā located in Sarangpur, Gujarat. In its efforts to supplement in-depth focused research with diverse perspectives, the organization encourages collaborative academic projects among these and other such centers for learning.
