Under the benefaction of The Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), the BAPS Swaminarayan Research Institute conducted a three-day conference (15 -17 Nov. 2019) titled: ‘The Akṣara-Puruṣottama Darśana in Dialogue with Other Darśanas’. Scholars at the conference presented in-depth research on the Akṣara-Puruṣottama Darśana from their unique disciplinary perspectives and also engaged in productive reflections and discussions on the topics presented.

17th World Sanskrit Conference Recognizes Bhagwan Swaminarayan’s Akshar-Purushottam Darshan as a Distinct Vedanta Tradition

 

The 17th World Sanskrit Conference, the premier international forum for Sanskrit scholars, recognized Bhagwan Swaminarayan’s Akshar-Purushottam Darshan as the first new independent school of Vedanta since the 16th century. The recently authored ground-breaking Sanskrit works on the Akshar-Purushottam Darshan, the Swaminarayan-Bhashyam and the Swaminarayan-Siddhanta-Sudha by Sadhu Bhadreshdas of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, were also launched in the conference’s inaugural session on July 9, 2018 in Vancouver, Canada.

Felicitation Ceremony of Mahamahopadhyaya Swami Bhadreshdasji at Maharaja Sayajirao University, Atladara (Vadodara), India

It has been nearly 150 years since a bhashya, or commentary, on any of the Upanishads, Brahmasutras, and the Bhagavad Gita – collectively known as the prasthantrayi – has been written. Inspired by His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj, Swami Bhadreshdasji is the latest in the lineage of acharyas to author bhashyas in Sanskrit on the prasthantrayi. The creation of the bhashyas by Swami Bhadreshdasji is considered by many scholars to be this century’s most important work in Vedanta philosophy.

Senior representatives of 27 prestigious universities from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and other states gathered at the C.C. Mehta Auditorium of Maharaja Sayajirao University in Vadodara to honor Mahamahopadhyaya Swami Bhadreshdasji for authoring two contemporary Sanskrit texts: ‘Swaminarayan Bhashyam’ and ‘Swaminarayan-Siddhant-Sudha’.
